Volume 6 of the Over In About An Hour mixtape series is now available for your listening pleasure. There wasn’t much of a story behind this playlist. It’s a collection of songs that I’ve been enjoying and felt like sharing with others.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the artists, albums and tracks I’ve included in the series. Feel free to leave a comment or two.

  1. You And I Are A Gang Of Losers – The Dears
The Dears - Gang Of Losers
The first of two tracks from The Dears on this playlist. I’m a bit of a fan of putting bookend tracks from one artist on a playlist.
  2. Here It Comes – The Doves
    The Doves
One of those bands that seems to make its way back onto the stereo every now and then.
  3. Do You Believe In Rapture – Sonic Youth
    Sonic Youth
A band and a record that I like more and more each time I listen to them. I’ve been reading Thomas Ricks’ Fiasco and this song was a good accompaniment to the book.
  4. Let Him Dangle – Elvis Costello
    Elvis Costello - Spike
Elvis in a mood as he retells the story of the death of Sidney Miles and the two teenagers involved in the shooting – Chris Craig and Derek Bentley. Bentley was executed in 1953 for the crime. 45 years later he received a posthumous pardon for the murder.
  5. Maggie’s Farm – Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan - Bringing It All Back Home
The first version of this song that I can remember hearing was performed by U2 at The Conspiracy of Hope Tour in 1986. My well worn VHS tape of the MTV/MuchMusic broadcast of the show from Giants Stadium, NJ eventually inspired me to track down the original.
  6. Gimme Shelter – The Rolling Stones
Let It Bleed [SACD Hybrid] [Remaster]
Perhaps the flipside to the Sonic Youth track included here. The work of guest vocalist Merry Clayton makes this an incredible song.
  7. Clinically Dead – Chad VanGaalen
    Chad VanGaalen - Infiniheart
Indie Canadian rock from Calgary. This album was originally released in 2004 before Chad signed to SubPop.
  8. Lit Up – The National
    The National - Alligator
  9. Fiction – The Concretes
    The Concretes - In Colour
  10. Is This Home On Ice – Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah
    Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
  11. Black Lexus – Joseph Arthur
    Joseph Arthur - Nuclear Daydream
A new record from Joseph Arthur. Liked this track but am still undecided on the album.
  12. Eanie Meany – Jim Noir
    Tower Of Love
Sounds like it is right out of another decade. A catchy single.
  13. Think I’m In Love – Beck
    Beck - The Information
The new Beck record is forthcoming. This is one of four tracks that I’ve heard. Love that he is back together with Nigel Godrich.
  14. This Modern Love – Bloc Party
    Silent Alarm [PA] *
Eagerly awaiting the next record from these guys.
  15. Ballad Of Humankindness – The Dears
The Dears - Gang Of Losers
This record is almost a given to make my top ten list for 2006. Murray Lightburn’s vocals remind me of Damon Albarn of Blur and they fit nicely on top of the art rock song structure.
