How did I miss this one? Savane by Ali Farka Toure.
An outstanding record, released earlier this year, that I connected with today and which will now make my best of 2006 list. The fifth track on the disc called Soya has gotten inside of my head and I’m not sure when it’s going to leave. This is a record that captures you with its hypnotic groove and haunting tale of love and a life lived. A true journey and a brillant intersection of the blues and world music that deserves to be in more people’s record collections.

great great great record.
Also, do not miss “In the Heart of the Moon” which won a Grammy in 2005. One of the handful of truly, well-deserved Grammys that were awarded last year.
