Over In About An Hour: Volume 8 (music for washing the dishes to)
After much too long of a hiatus, I’ve put together Volume 8 of the Over In About An Hour mixtape series.
This collection of songs was pulled together for an evening of washing dishes and cleaning a very messy kitchen. While our kitchen does have a dishwasher in it, there is something about cleaning dishes by hand. It can be a great time for solitary reflection and allowing the mind to wander. Great music can take you places and when better than when you’re elbow deep in lukewarm, grimy water. Convincing a family member or friend to join in the workload, gives time to chat about life, work, friends, art, politics and so many things that an hour in front of the television does not.
The tracklisting for Volume 8 is:
- Grey in L.A. – Loudon Wainwright III
From the album: Strange Weirdos: Music From And Inspired By The Film Knocked Up - Gotta Get Away – The Rolling Stones

Hi Johnny – discovered your playlists via the Radish last year and wanted to say thanks for the much-needed inspiration to take my portable music device off of shuffle play once in a while. I was drawn to this one by the Loudon Wainwright III bookends (isn’t “Daughter” an amazing song?) but was truly knocked out by the middle segue that went from Stars to Papas Fritas to the Spinners – great listening!

David – Thanks for the kind words. Really appreciate them.
I love tracks like Sleep Tonight. There is something about the female voice backed by warm synths. Reminds me of Yaz from years ago.
I went to see Knocked Up over the weekend and at the end of the film they use Daughter. It connected with me and was something I sought out as soon as I got how. Nice to see the Joe Henry touches on that record.
Cheers.
